چکیده
In this study, a bioremediation approach was evaluated for the decontamination of an aquifer affected by release organohalides industrial landfill. After preliminary physicochemical and microbiological characterization landfill groundwater, stimulation natural organohalide respiration addition reducing substrate (i.e., molasse) tested both at microcosm field scales, placement anaerobic permeable reactive bio-barrier. Illumina sequencing cDNA 16S rRNA gene revealed that organohalide-respiring bacteria genera Geobacter, Sulfurospirillum, Dehalococcoides, Clostridium Shewanella were present within microbial community, along with fermentative Firmicutes Parvarchaeota. Microcosm experiments confirmed presence active attenuation, which boosted substrate. Field tests showed bio-barrier decreased concentration chloroethenes rate 23.74 kg d?1. Monitoring biomarkers qPCR native populations involved in dechlorination process, although their specific role still needs to be clarified. The accumulation lower-chloroethenes suggested need future improvement supporting bacterial vinyl-chloride oxidation, achieve complete degradation chloroethenes.

Permeable Reactive Barriers Designed To Mitigate Eutrophication Alter Bacterial Community Composition and Aquifer Redox Conditions.
Permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) consist of a labile carbon source that is positioned to intercept nitrate-laden groundwater to prevent eutrophication. Decomposition of carbon in the PRB drives groundwater anoxic, fostering microbial denitrification. Such PRBs are an ideal habitat to examine microbial community structure under high-nitrate, carbon-replete conditions in coastal aquifers. We ex...

Bioremediation of oil polluted marine sediments: A bio-engineering treatment.
The fate of hydrocarbon pollutants and the development of oil-degrading indigenous marine bacteria in contaminated sediments are strongly influenced by abiotic factors such as temperature, low oxygen levels, and nutrient availability. In this work, the effects of different biodegradation processes (bioremediation) on oil-polluted anoxic sediments were analyzed. In particular, as a potential bio...

Dynamics of microbial community composition and function during in situ bioremediation of a uranium-contaminated aquifer.
A pilot-scale system was established to examine the feasibility of in situ U(VI) immobilization at a highly contaminated aquifer (U.S. DOE Integrated Field Research Challenge site, Oak Ridge, TN). Ethanol was injected intermittently as an electron donor to stimulate microbial U(VI) reduction, and U(VI) concentrations fell to below the Environmental Protection Agency drinking water standard (0.0...
